Congrats to RR CORE! So far, they’ve looked like they’re going about even against every team in the main stage, but I believe their true strength is much greater than that. In both of the past two games, Yuuhi seemed somewhat lost during the early stages, only gradually starting to give clear instructions before engages in the mid-to-late game—for example, in the previous match, calling for Pantheon to ult alongside her, and in this one, clearly stating that she shouldn’t be the one to engage first (though that did come across as a bit of lost confidence). The reason they looked confused is that, after getting their drafts in both games, neither she nor the rest of the team had a clear overarching idea of how to approach the games. Otherwise, they could have performed much better.
Looking at the previous match’s Smolder draft, if they had decided from the start to buy time for Smolder’s farming, then in the early game they would have avoided teamfights as much as possible, had Pantheon go to different side of JG from Lillia, traded Voidgrubs or Herald for Dragons, firmly defended the first mid tower, and in teamfights prioritized engaging on the enemy threats to Smolder while keeping some control abilities to protect her. That way, they definitely wouldn’t have looked so panic early on.
As for today’s draft, there were at least two points that needed to be emphasized right from the start:
1. Play to Ryze’s split-push strength and actively create opportunities for him to take down enemy towers and inhibitors.
2. Since their comp was built to engage, the only major thing to watch out for in teamfights was Renata’s counter-ultimate. That meant their positioning before engages should ideally be set up to collapse from multiple angles. (The 11:42 fight was won so easily not just because it was a 5v4 from the front, but also because of their positional advantage.) As for who should engage first, they could figure that out gradually—just as actually happened in this game.
If they had remembered the first point, then at 10:49 they could have taken the enemy mid inhibitor, and before the enemy could reset after finishing Baron, they could have used Ryze’s ultimate to retreat. They could even have used Ryze’s ult to bring the minion wave and take down both the bot tower and inhibitor as well. For players with a keen sense for pushing, such fleeting opportunities are always seized—but most top and mid laners lack that sense. Moreover, at 13:23, they didn’t actually need to take the Elder Dragon fight, because if the enemy didn’t go back to defend, Ryze could have ended the game outright. If Inui had realized this and immediately told the team to disengage when he saw that no one was defending bot (in fact no one in enemy team can do engage), the game likely would have ended right there. I’ve always thought that if you can win a game without relying on teamfigts, you absolutely shouldn’t take any fight—because in teamfights anything can happen, and a single mistake can cause irreversible losses.
Another thing worth noting is that, Ceros often drafts comps without a tank, and such comps are fairly vulnerable to Jinx. If Hinano had picked Jinx in this game, the outcome might have been very different.
Of course, for most viewers, tense and evenly matched games like these are actually more exciting to watch. And if you don’t care too much about winning or losing (since someone has to finish 4th place anyway), then more viewers simply means that every player participating in LTK becomes a winner, so let’s just keep focusing on enjoying the matches and cheering for the しんぽ of every player!

RR core/next応援してます!
